Most record damage happens in the first half-second — the drop. Here's how we cue a side.

Lower, don't drop

The cue lever exists for a reason. Lower the stylus onto the lead-in groove and let it find the music. A hard drop dents the groove and skips the first note.

Clean first

A dusty record grinds under the needle. Brush it every side. Your stylus will thank you in five years.
